Saturday Sparks — Back-to-School Teacher Gifts

Saturday Sparks — Back-to-School Teacher Gifts

It’s officially August, and that means back-to-school is just around the corner. The kiddos in our area are heading back what seems extra early to me this year, so it’s time to start thinking about teacher gifts. On this warm summer Saturday morning,  I’ve compiled a few ideas to help kick-start your creative spark, some simple and some more flashy (take a look at that school supply cake), but hopefully you find inspiration here to craft something fabulous for a special teacher.

Saturday Sparks — Rustic Porches

Saturday Sparks — Rustic Porches

So you’ve probably heard mention of my new deck by now (in fact, I have two new decks), and I promise to share pics soon, but first I think a bit of decorating is in order. After three years in our new home, I’m so happy to have a new sitting spot out back and want to bring a rustic touch to the décor there.

Now, when I say “rustic” I’m thinking outdoorsy, Adirondack or homey wood furniture with plaid throws, old-fashioned ticking or denim pillows. While it would be nice to have an actual cabin in the woods with timber beams and a huge rock fireplace, I don’t. What I do have is a humble wooden deck that is now bare and begging for inspiration. And so it’s that inspiration I’m sharing today.

Saturday Sparks — Good Ol’ Garden Fences

Saturday Sparks — Good Ol’ Garden Fences

With the arrival of the gardening season, also comes my thoughts toward a better garden de-fence. We back to a couple hundred acres of timber full of all sorts of wildlife that appreciates our fresh veggies as much as we do. So each year, I always make grand plans for future fencing to protect our little garden from all sorts of pests; but as of yet, nothing but a simple chicken wire barricade has appeared. If you’re also on the hunt for a good ol’ garden fence, then today’s inspiration is just for you (and me). I hope these practical solutions give us both something about which to think. . . and maybe even build.
