Fishing for a Boy’s Birthday Card

Fishing for a Boy’s Birthday Card

fishcard2

I’m at home with a sick little boy, so I thought I would take a break from my nursing duties and Spring cleaning (yes, I know it’s not yet Spring — wishful thinking) and share a cute little boy’s birthday card I recently made for one of my son’s friends. The birthday party was all about fishing, so I decided to follow suit and create a special card for the occasion.

I located an adorable little digital stamp from Pinterest, sized it down to fit my A2 card base and printed it on white cardstock. I then colored the image with my Spectrum Noire markers, which is always a relaxing way to spend a few grownup minutes. I matted the image and finished off the card using Hooked on Fishing paper from The Paper Loft’s 6×6 coordinating pads. I added some ribbon and twine along the side and, of course, I inked all the edges for some added interest. The sentiment on the inside said, “Hope your birthday is a whopper,” which I think was lost on the young audience, but I thought it was cute all the same.

Little Boy Stuck Sketches Challenge

Little Boy Stuck Sketches Challenge

stuck sketch

stuck sketchesI’ve been spending so much time substitute teaching at my son’s school lately that there has been little left over for creative endeavors, but I did manage to squeak out a couple of hours Saturday afternoon to create a fun one-page layout for this month’s Stuck?! sketch challenge.

Once again my two favorite boys were my subject matter, so this one was pretty easy with the help of the “Little Boy” kit by Crystal Wilkerson. Since I had two 4×6 photos already printed, my page is a little larger than the Stuck sketches inspiration but it still has a similar feel. I like all the fun colors and patterns in this kit and can’t wait to use it again.

Cute Chick Card for Sketch Challenge

Cute Chick Card for Sketch Challenge

sketch challenge

sketch challengeMy goodness, where did my card making mojo go? I swear it took me two hours to create a couple of cards for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches sketch challenge and it felt like  a real struggle just to produce these. I don’t know if was the sketch, my paper choice, the Easter theme (you know me, I’m never one to be that much ahead of the game) or the fact that I had to first clean a spot in my craft room just to get started. Ugh!

As I gave my crafting table a clearing, I came upon some shimmery chick paper on top of a pile of I-don’t-know-what-to-do-with-this stuff, so I decided to chop it up and make some cards. I don’t know where this stock came from or how I might ever use it, so I created some cute Easter greeting cards way ahead of schedule.

For the first card (pictured below), I stuck to the sketch, but it seemed kind of blah to me, so I created a second one (top card) with a little spin. I think number two is cuter than the first, but both are very “bright.” Although you can’t see it in the photos, a little shimmer paper goes a long way. *grin*
