Stretching the Sketch With New Home Card

Stretching the Sketch With New Home Card

New Home Card

mpjp481I decided to stretch the Mojo Monday sketch this week and took a bit of creative license with this New Home card.

I started with my own watercolor creation on the card base and added other elements from here and there. Painting on paper usually causes a somewhat wavy effect, so I lined the inside of the card to give some stability to the overall piece.

I also added several elements like the button, twine ribbon and mounting tape for extra texture and interest. With a bit of ink around the edges, this creation was complete. . . now someone I know needs to move into a new home.

To Make a Mama’s Heart Melt

Earlier this week I discovered that my iPhone would randomly make little memory movies using groups of photos stored on my device. Okay, so it was a news flash for me, but apparently no one else in this big ol’ world. When I realized my phone had completely taken over creative license of my life, I decided to send my husband a fun little video of his birthday celebration. Unfortunately the file size was too large to send, so I decided to create a You Tube page and upload it there for his viewing pleasure. What I didn’t realize was that apparently four years ago, I created a personal You Tube page for just this very purpose — I am so smart; I just forgot.

Much to my surprise, I found several short videos of our then two-year-old son doing just the cutest little things ever. I thought this discovery was so cool, but one video in particular absolutely made my heart melt. I have watched it over and over and think my chest might burst every single time I see it; and necessarily so,  I have accosted at least one of my friends each day, forcing them to eww and ahh at the cutest kid in the world.

So in an effort to save my friends from being force feed kid videos, I decided to post my memory here today and will just assume that each and every one of you will naturally take a look (you might want to grab a tissue). Oh, and by the way those are balloon shaped candles from my birthday cake he is holding. This guy has always loved a good birthday party!

Hello Card and Hello Clean Craft Room

Hello Card and Hello Clean Craft Room

Hello card

Whew! It’s good to be back to blogging. After my year-end wrap-ups, I decided to take an unscheduled hiatus for most of the month because we as a family have had so many irons in the fire, on top of the winter crud and craft room cleaning that has been dragging on for weeks. I’m not sure which was worse — the sickness or the cleaning, but at least I now can get crafty without being confined to the itty bitty strip of walking room in the obstacle course that was my craft space. Yay!

FMS271So to celebrate the cleanliness of the craft room, I whipped up a cute little card for the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge this week. The sketch is a simple design and actually one of my go-to recipes when I create cards on my own.

The background paper is from Teresa Collins’ Now & Then designer 6×6 pad and the polka dot paper is from Iron Orchid’s Ragamuffin 6×6 pad. I also added a strip of pleated ribbon (I love it when it pays to save those scraps) and a cute little wooden button from Fairy Rhymes that I picked up on the cheap at Tuesday Morning last month. A bit of dark blue twine and some ink around the edges were the finishing touches for this super cute Hello card. I like that it is feminine without being too sweet, and I already know to whom I’ll be sending this one. I have a sweet friend who started chemotherapy this morning, so I hope this cute little card will brighten her day.
