Chapter 4: Snacking My Way Through Weight Watchers Road Trips

Chapter 4: Snacking My Way Through Weight Watchers Road Trips

Another month of Weight Watchers is in the books and with two road trips rounding out our family calendar, March was a bit tricky to navigate. Luckily, I had the support of family and lots of WW snacks to help me through the miles. I also discovered that one Peep (not one package, just one stand alone Peep) is only two SmartPoints. Oh yeah! Let me tell you, paired with a hot cup of coffee, that was absolutely the freshest, best tasting Peep I have ever eaten!!

Okay, so Peeps are not a sanctioned Weight Watchers snack choice, but that does bring me to some of my favorite WW friendly go-to treats (when I’m not eating Peeps). That’s the beauty of the Freestyle Program, if you have the points you can eat them however you want. I’m a grazer so I feel that a few low-point snacks are essential to my success. Please know that I also eat a lot of very healthy and tasty meals as a part of my weight loss program, but these snacks are helpful between meals and destinations.

Since I go to meetings at an established Weight Watchers storefront, I have access to a complete line of WW products. After each meeting I stock up on items before I head for home.  I understand that remote meeting locations also have snacks to purchase but not an extensive lineup. The items above are my favorites, but there are lots of other goodies from which to choose.

You may not be a snacker and might not need the benefit of prepackaged treats to keep you moving in the right direction; but as for me, I’ll keep snacking away at my goal. I’m twenty pounds down and plan to keep on losing.

Gray Skies and a Contentious Woman

We have been discussing the book I Will! Nine Traits of the Outwardly Focused Christian by Thom S. Rainer  during Wednesday Bible study, and tonight we touched on a verse from Proverbs 27. Verse 17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”

That’s a great verse, but I like to read a few extra verses surrounding specific passages to give a bit of context and that’s when I came across Proverbs 27:15. . .

“A continual dripping on a very rainy day
And a contentious woman are alike;”

I just had to giggle when I read this verse because my first thought was that maybe this woman was so contentious because she has been living through weeks of continual dripping rain (i.e. this so-called spring in the Midwest). Okay, so it’s probably not the appropriate translation of said Bible verse, but I’m thinking I just might have a solid case of weather-related contention and I’m tired of saying sorry for dripping all over the place.

Arkansas Easter Good for the Gray Sky Blues

Arkansas Easter Good for the Gray Sky Blues

I don’t think I have ever been more thankful for Easter in Arkansas than I was this weekend. Other than the obvious festivities, good food and catching up with family, Saturday’s weather couldn’t have been more delicious for a girl who is positively sick of the gray skies and cold temps in the Midwest.

Easter

We reached the mid-70s with sunny skies in Blue Jay Hollow and everyone spent most of the day outdoors. Other than the protests to the sunscreen, the kids enjoyed made-up games, football and who knows what else. The grownups sat around sipping cold drinks, catching up on the days since Thanksgiving and keeping half an eye on the youngsters. I absolutely relished the sun, which had been completely absent from my life for about two straight weeks. What a perfect Easter eve day!

Easter

It was such an enjoyable outdoorsy kind of day that it became a task just to get everyone inside to color Easter eggs! My son declared that we wasn’t coloring eggs this year, but I nixed that idea awfully quick! Of course he begrudgingly came indoors with the other children and then had a blast dying eggs all sorts of greens, pinks and blues (and even a few browns).

EasterThe big hit was the Egg-Mazing machine that my niece brought along. This thing is so cool!  I definitely need to acquire one of my own. While the egg spins on little wheels, you simply hold a marker against the egg to make nearly perfect little, or big, stripes all the way around the egg. It looked like so much fun, most of the moms even gave it a go. Saturday hit a high note with the Easter egg hunt, especially with the addition of several money and candy eggs, and we all lingered outside in the waning sun until the mosquitoes ran us indoors.

Unfortunately Easter Sunday turned off cooler and rainy, but I accepted this fate because the day before had been so cooperative. We attended church at Thornburg Baptist and then back to Nannie’s for more family time and good food. When we finally arrived home Monday, we were greeted with more gray skies, a snow-covered ground and temperatures barely above freezing. Yuck! Was the near-perfect picture of Easter eve in Blue Jay Hollow just a dream? If so, I’m going back to bed. . . wake me when the sun comes out!
