    We were enjoying a mild winter here in the Midwest. . . until this week, as we fell into an extended deep freeze that made me really thankful for roaring fires, cozy sweaters and super fuzzy socks. Unfortunately, our chicken friends have none of these same luxuries, but we did bundle them up a bit to face the bitter cold.

    Our New Farm-Inspired Slamming Screen Door

    I am so excited to share our latest home improvement project with all of you. While my husband may argue that it isn't really an improvement, I am simply in love with our new farm-inspired slamming screen door! I have had designs on this door for over eight years now and with the completion of several other porch projects, it was finally time to see (and hear) this baby do its thing.

    A Blizzard from the Warm Side of the Windows

    Sometimes I hate it when the weather man is right; and unfortunately he, she, they nailed today’s blizzard conditions in the Midwest. The Three-Acre Wood is now covered in a blustery blanket of snow and yesterday’s warm 50s have now been reduced to the mid-20s. New York is actually warmer than Kansas City!  Other than early morning church, a “drop & shop” at the grocery store (which was insane) and family photos (of all things) we did manage to burrow down while the blizzard blew in for hours. It was pretty nice to watch the weather from the warm side of the windows, and even Dixie the cat enjoyed the…
