One of my favorite observances this time of year is the Advent wreath and the weekly candle lighting that leads up to Christmas. This year I decided to incorporate this idea into our home and created an Advent “wreath” in a box.

    Our New Farm-Inspired Slamming Screen Door

    I am so excited to share our latest home improvement project with all of you. While my husband may argue that it isn't really an improvement, I am simply in love with our new farm-inspired slamming screen door! I have had designs on this door for over eight years now and with the completion of several other porch projects, it was finally time to see (and hear) this baby do its thing.

    A Blizzard from the Warm Side of the Windows

    Sometimes I hate it when the weather man is right; and unfortunately he, she, they nailed today’s blizzard conditions in the Midwest. The Three-Acre Wood is now covered in a blustery blanket of snow and yesterday’s warm 50s have now been reduced to the mid-20s. New York is actually warmer than Kansas City!  Other than early morning church, a “drop & shop” at the grocery store (which was insane) and family photos (of all things) we did manage to burrow down while the blizzard blew in for hours.     If a Tree Falls in the Woods. . .

    I spent the better part of this very rainy morning having coffee talk with some good friends, which was a wonderful, relaxing way to start the day. The afternoon? Well, that proved a bit more exciting. . .  Shortly after lunch I heard a loud snapping sound from outside and by the time I got to a window the carnage was already in motion. The bad news was that a rather large tree from “The Wood” was uprooted and lodged in another slightly smaller tree, which also now was mangled beyond saving. The fortunate news was that the large tree at least had the good graces to fall in the opposite direction of the chicken…
