“Sweet” Shaker Card for Summer

“Sweet” Shaker Card for Summer

Winter still has a grip on our little part of the Midwest, so I spent a couple of hours this afternoon dreaming of sweet treats and summer skies as I put together a little something for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches.

shaker cardThis is my first solo shaker card, so I was working without a net. Other than a few too many beads (rookie mistake) I think this “Sweet” card turned out pretty cute. I just can’t wait to send it to someone special when summer finally arrives. . . I do realize spring has to get here first. *sigh*

I used Echo Park’s Summer Bliss paper to create this card and the ice cream cone and sentiment came from the Small Talk Frames & Tags Cricut cartridge. . . very aptly named, I think! I recently purchased this cartridge at Tuesday Morning and my sister was disappointed that they only had one. It’s full of some stinkin’ cute graphics and I’ve been on the hunt for another one for my sad sis. I’m sure I’ll run across another someday.

The “sprinkle” beads were part of a Martha Stewart Crafts microbead set. I used pretty thin foam tape for the card so these were the only thing I had small enough to roll around on the ice cream. I think some oblong beads would have looked more like sprinkles, but I had none. I probably donated them to the thrift store last week. *grin*

Cute Chick Card for Sketch Challenge

Cute Chick Card for Sketch Challenge

sketch challengeMy goodness, where did my card making mojo go? I swear it took me two hours to create a couple of cards for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches sketch challenge and it felt like  a real struggle just to produce these. I don’t know if was the sketch, my paper choice, the Easter theme (you know me, I’m never one to be that much ahead of the game) or the fact that I had to first clean a spot in my craft room just to get started. Ugh!

As I gave my crafting table a clearing, I came upon some shimmery chick paper on top of a pile of I-don’t-know-what-to-do-with-this stuff, so I decided to chop it up and make some cards. I don’t know where this stock came from or how I might ever use it, so I created some cute Easter greeting cards way ahead of schedule.

For the first card (pictured below), I stuck to the sketch, but it seemed kind of blah to me, so I created a second one (top card) with a little spin. I think number two is cuter than the first, but both are very “bright.” Although you can’t see it in the photos, a little shimmer paper goes a long way. *grin*

Wrapping Up the Year With 2018 Greeting

Wrapping Up the Year With 2018 Greeting

freshly made sketch

Since my son and I are playing close to home on this chilly Christmas break day, I decided to get in one more creative card project before the year ran out, which is probably why I settled on a new year’s theme.

FMS Final 318-001This Freshly Made Sketch challenge was simple in nature, but I kept leaning toward Christmas type cards knowing full well I was so over those for this year. I then jumped to Valentine’s Day, but thought it might be a bit too soon for heart and roses. Although I don’t usually send out New Year’s cards, at least one mailbox will have a special greeting this year.

I used paper from the Engraver collection by Prima to create this simple card and some Thickers-style numbers for the year. I simply inked the edges in black and popped up the top layer with some thin foam and that was it. I did line the inside with cream-colored paper and stamped “celebrate” to top off the greeting.

Happy New Year!
