Color Throwdown Challenge Made Simple

Color Throwdown Challenge Made Simple

color throwdown

Okay, so I got a little crafty yesterday, but after coming off a multi-day headache I felt the need to catch up on absolutely everything. And although this was card number two for the day, it only took about five total minutes to complete so I was able to knock it out for this week’s Color Throwdown Challenge and move on to the next item at hand.

Sure, this card was simple to assemble, but I still think it packs quite a punch. I love the small pop of red via the heart brad, because it adds a great bit of interest to an otherwise colorless card. The main part of the card is simply a 4×6 pocket card that I trimmed down to fit on my card base, but I did ink the edges in black to hide any cut marks (whew, exhausting). Add a little adhesive and that was it!

I love this super simple creation and think it would be great for a wedding, engagement, anniversary or Valentine’s Day. . . even if it did feel like cheating.

Congrats Card for New Parents

Congrats Card for New Parents

congrats card

It seems like I’m often in need of baby cards these days and I just don’t have much of a stash for this all-important event, so when Cards in Envy posted their cheers challenge for the week I decided to create a congrats card just for some lucky parent to be. I decided to make the card gender neutral by using some tangerine pink, blues and yellows, because I don’t have a looking glass for this sort of thing (if I did, I’m sure I would be rich).

All the papers for this card, except the yellow balloon, came from the DCWV Sky’s the Limit paper pack and I inked all the edges in brown to create definition. The elephant die came from a cute set I purchased at The Scrapbook Expo in July and the balloons are simply a circle punch. I popped up the heart and yellow balloon just a bit for some interest and glued on twine for strings.

It’s a very simple card, but I think it turned out pretty cute. I can’t wait to see who turns up pregnant next!!

Saying So Long to Summer

Saying So Long to Summer

so long summer

so long to summerI wrapped up my week fittingly with this so long to summer card that I created for the latest Freshly Made Sketches challenge. As soon as I saw the sketch I immediately thought pocket, but when I couldn’t locate denim paper in my stash I switched to a bandana feel. The stitching around the edge gives it a bit more finished look and some added texture.

The papers came from different collections, but I was able to combine everything for a fun summer look, and of course I inked all my edges. I found the big yellow flower in my little drawer of floral and was delighted that it was the perfect size and color for my card. I know I made that thing years ago and it’s probably as old as my child (I guess it pays not to throw anything away).

With the quick addition of a wonky sentiment, this card was finished. Now I just have to write a note and send it to a friend.
