A “First Class” Christmas Card

A “First Class” Christmas Card

adirondackcard1

First Class WinnerOh my goodness, with all the holly and jolly of the season I completely forgot to share a bit of good news with you. I found out last week that my Christmas card submitted to the Cards in Envy Put Some Extra Layers On challenge in November won the First Class award for that week. That’s the top award for the challenge and my first from Cards in Envy. I’m so super excited about the win because I love this new paper and I was very happy with the finished product. You know, sometimes I’m just sort of “meh” about a card but show the world anyway.

You can find all the specifics about the card and see a companion piece at the original post:  Cozy Lodge Christmas Cards.

Saturday Sparks — December Daily Ideas

Saturday Sparks — December Daily Ideas

Have you ever thought of doing one of these fun little “December Daily” scrapbooks that are all over Pinterest these days? I have. . . and thinking is about as far as I’ve gone at this point. Seeing as it’s already the fifth of the month, I would say I’m pretty far behind already (surprise!!), but I really would like to do a simple version of this great project for 2015. It’s just a cool way to kind of bring the advent of the season to life and make each moment special as we near Christmas day.

So as I went hunting for my own inspiration, I decided to pass along a few found ideas from some really gifted paper crafters and photographers. If it’s a little late to start your own daily journal this year, hopefully this will spark some interest for the next holiday season. Hey, maybe you can do the forty days of Lent or fourteen days of Valentines, or even the hallowed days of Halloween. . . and yes, I’m sure they have all been done. Happy Crafting!

FMS Final 203-001I couldn’t help but take a few moments to create a card for the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge. It seemed so simple. . . until I picked my shape. Of course it all took on a life of its own, but I conquered it in the end.

I used my mason jar die for the shape and showcased it on a background of Simple Stories Summer Fresh papers. I highlighted the lid with a grey marker and added brown twine to give it some punch. The firefly stamp was the fun part, and I highlighted those cute little guys with a touch of pale blue on the wings and Stickles on the lights. I also added yellow sequins to mimic the fireflies outside of the jar. In the end, a bit of blue Glimmer Mist and ink all around adds depth to all the card elements.

“Dream” seemed like a fitting word for this end-of-summer card. . . plus, it was a handy stamp on which to lay my hands. (Sometimes it pays not to pick up your messes.)
